Hong Kong Sees Rise in Indonesian Tourists as Muslim-Friendly Ecosystem Expands

JAKARTA: Hong Kong’s commitment to enhancing its Muslim-friendly travel landscape has yielded significant results, with the city recording a 4% increase in Indonesian visitor arrivals in 2025.

According to the latest data, Hong Kong welcomed a total of 49.9 million visitors last year, representing a 12% overall rise from 2024. Within this growth, the Indonesian market contributed 382,000 arrivals, buoyed by the city's widespread expansion of Halal-certified services and facilities.

The Hong Kong Tourism Board highlighted these achievements during recent Iftar events held in Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta, showcasing a robust ecosystem that now includes officially Crescent Rated establishments comprising 59 hotels, two major attractions, and two MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) venues, as well as 195 Halal-certified and Muslim-owned F&B establishments verified by the Incorporated Trustees of the Islamic Community Fund of Hong Kong.

Hong Kong’s strategic focus on this segment was further validated in the CrescentRating Global Muslim Travel Index (GMTI) 2025, where it was named the third most Muslim-friendly non-OIC (Organisation of Islamic Cooperation) destination globally.

In addition, the city maintained its stronghold at the prestigious Halal in Travel Awards 2025, securing first position as the most Muslim-friendly accessible travel destination and ranked second for safety for female Muslim travelers.

Hong Kong’s establishments continued to earn further recognition, with The Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre named the Muslim-friendly Convention & Exhibition Centre of the Year, while Ngong Ping 360 took home the title for Muslim-friendly Attraction of the Year.

In the hospitality sector, Kowloon Shangri-La and The Mira Hong Kong were both honored as Muslim-friendly Hotels of the Year, underscoring the high standards of faith-based services available in the city. These achievements showcase Hong Kong’s seriousness in attracting global Muslim travelers, with a Muslim-friendly ecosystem built into every part of hospitality.

Industry experts suggest that the continuous nomination and success of Hong Kong in these global benchmarks have solidified its position as a top-tier choice for Muslim travelers, especially Southeast Asian tourists seeking inclusive and secure travel experiences
