Global Muslim Travel Index 2016 analysed destinations from five main regions - Asia, Europe, Africa, the Americas and Oceania. The average GMTI score was calculated for each of these regions to see how well they fared against the Index's 11 criteria.

The GMTI table below shows the average scores for each region:

The comparison of average GMTI scores by region shows Asia as the leading region, with an average GMTI score of 56.5. Oceania and Africa are tied for the second spot, followed by Europe and the Americas respectively.

Asia, Oceania, Europe and the Americas have shown an improvement in their average scores compared to the previous year, while Africa has a lower average score in 2016.
