If you haven't visited New Orleans then you have missed the best of United States and its southern hospitality. The city has a deeply imbedded culture and has a lot of fun activities that visitors can partake in during their stay. New Orleans is popular for its Creole food and has something tasty for everyone.

 

The historic architecture of New Orleans is pretty famous and can be seen in the French Quarter of the city. The Victorian mansions in Uptown offer a beautiful sight and the museums of New Orleans represent the history and culture of the area. Some of the museums in the city include the 1850 House, Backstreet Cultural Museum, Blaine Kern's Mardi Gras World, Louisiana Children's Museum, Musee Conti Wax Museum, The National World War II Museum, New Orleans African American Museum and the New Orleans Museum of Art.

The French Quarter of the city is one of the main appeals: from beautiful architecture to wonderful art galleries and restaurants, the French Quarter is a marvelous section of the city. There are several historic homes and buildings in the area that attract the attention of travelers. Some of the architectural delights in the area include the Old U.S Mint, New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park, Madame John's Legacy, Jean Lafitte National Historical Park, Hermann-Grima House and Gallier House. Much of the French Quarter is easily accessible on foot.

The history of New Orleans is visible in every nook and corner of the city. The plazas, square and parks are also representative of the history and culture of the city. The plazas give an impression of the Spanish and French influence in the city. The City Park in the heart of New Orleans is one of the most visited places in the city. It houses the Botanical Gardens, Sydney and Walda Bestoff Sculpture Garden and the Museum of Art. The Audubon Park is another popular destination in the city. The Fulton Street Square, Jackson Square and Lafayette Square are some significant squares in the city.

Shopping in New Orleans is like visitors can been exposed to a treasure cove. Right from rare antiquities to clothing and jewelry there are several shops and malls across the city. Downtown has some excellent shops, the French Market and Royal Street are famous for antique shopping. Shops at the Canal Place and Riverwalk Marketplace are good for casual shopping. The Magazine Street is a shoppers' paradise.

There are several masaajid in New Orleans including the Islamic Center of New Orleans in Marigny and the New Orleans Al-Islam Masjid in City Central. There are also a few halal restaurants in the city most of them serving South Asian cuisine. Halal restaurants in the city need carry a certificate. However a couple of restaurants are run by Muslims and verbally confirm that they serve halal food.

New Orleans is divided into various sections and the best way to move around the city is to take a taxi or car rental. The city is also well-connected by buses. The streetcars are a much popular means of transport in the city. Do not forget to enjoy the river cruises in the city.
