Regarded as the centre of Iranian Azerbaijan, Tabriz is the fourth largest city of Iran and serves as the capital of the East Azerbaijan Province. Tabriz is a wonderful city with a rich history about 4500 years old. The city is set between Eynali and Sahand mountains on fertile land. Tabriz has served as the capital of Iran under various dynasties and hence has a variety of historic monuments from different periods.
Although Baghdad is now undergoing another period of turmoil in its long history, the first name of the city was Madinat al-Salaam or "City of Peace". This is the name given to the city by its builder, Abbasid Caliph Abu Ja'far Abdallah ibn Muhammad al-Mansur, the 2nd Abbasid Caliph. He is the grand farther of the well known Caliph of Baghdad, Harun al Rasheed.
Located in the province of Fars, Shiraz is a wonderful city which holds a lot of historic importance. For thousands of years Shiraz has been called as the heartland of Persia. Shiraz is popular by several names like Dar-ol-Elm (House of Learning), City of Love, City of Roses, and City of Gardens. The city has been home to several poets, the most famous being Saadi and Hafez. The resting places of these poets Saadieh and Hafezieh are in the city.
The restriction to make images of humans inspired the Muslims during the last centuries to develop a unique genre of "Art". Beautiful geometrically patterns (arabesque) and calligraphy were the cornerstone of these Architects, calligraphers etc. The result was and continues to be reflected in the beautiful mosques, gardens, paintings, carpets and pottery works to name a few.
Esfahan is a jewel of ancient Persia and one of the best cities in Iran. From Basra Ibn Battuta started travelling with an aim to reach Baghdad but took a lengthier route traversing Iran and Esfahan was his next main stop.
Built by the renowned architect of the Ottoman period, Mimar Sinan, it is a key landmark of Sarajevo. The Mosques was built in 1532 AD with the support of the then governor of Bosnia, Gazi-Husrev-beg. It is a great work of Ottomon architecture by Mimar Sinan, who went on to build the famous Selimiye Mosque in Turkey. The masjid has been now renovated after the heavy damage during the siege of Sarajevo.
