Polonnaruwa is located about 216km from Colombo and served as capital of Sri Lanka in the medieval times between the 11th and 13th century. Travelers can see the ruins of the old city around the Lake Topawewa, which is a man-made lake built during the 12th century. Back then it was a fortified city and today it stands as one of the best planned Archeological sites in Sri Lanka.
The Mohideen Jumma Masjid is the main Masjid in the city. The Jummah Salaath is held around 12:30PM and the sermon is delivered in the local language usually Tamil. There are no prayer facilities for women. There are one or two restaurants serving Halal food in the city.
