Oman is officially called as the Sultanate of Oman and is located on the southeast coast of the Arabian Peninsula. The area of Oman has been inhabited since the Stone Age, about 5,000 years ago.
Popularly called as the Fjord of Arabia, the Fjord of Oman is a fjord located in the Musandam Peninsula. Separated by the Northern Emirates, the fjord is incomparable in beauty. Traditional Arabian dhows take visitors on a ride around the fjord. The harbour town of Khasab is the point from where the dhow cruises depart. The cruise lasts for an entire day.
The King’s Palace in Muscat or the Al Alam Palace serves as one of the residences of Sultan Qaboos bin Said al Said. Featuring a modern gold and blue Islamic façade, the palace was built in 1972. The palace has a central building with two long extended wings. The roof of the building is supported by columns that are blue and gold. The palace is generally used for hosting official functions and ceremonies.
Oman has a number of sinkholes that have attracted the attention of locals as well as travellers. The most popular sinkholes in the area include the Taiq sinkhole, the Tawi Atair sinkhole and the Bimmah sinkhole.
A small village and oasis in northern Oman, Bahla is best known for its Bahla Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The entire town is enclosed by an extensive wall spanning over a distance of 12Km. the town is also popular for it’s pottery making, which is also one of the best souvenirs to buy from the place. These pots are still made in the traditional way and it features intricate designs.
The Wahiba Desert also known as the Ramlat al-Wahiba and Sharqiya Sands is a place where you can get some excitement and fun. Visitors can take a 4x4 drive from Muscat and visit this beautiful area. The Wahiba Desert is about 3 hours away from Muscat. Camping facilities are also available in the desert and you can spend an entire day enjoying traversing the sand dunes.
The largest city of Oman and also its capital, Muscat is a beautiful city excellent to relax and have fun. Whether it is roaming around the souks, watching the wooden dhows as they come in and go out of the harbour or visiting historic attractions, Muscat offers a number of interesting things to do and enjoy.
One of the best places for the entire family to have fun in Muscat, the Riyam Park is located close to the Muttrah Corniche and offers some amazing views of the surrounding hills and the sea. With several options of rides for the kids, the place is excellent to spend some excellent time. Spreading over a large area, the park has several playgrounds, gardens and places to sit down and relax.
Located about 2Km from Wadi Shab in Oman is the serene coastal settlement Wadi Tiwi. Popular as one of the most beautiful wadis in Oman, it extends over 36Km. The wadi also has a small village Mibam and the entire area has several groves and trees. The entire area is very relaxing and excellent to admire.
