A well-planned and modern township, Shah Alam is the capital of the state of Selangor and lies in the Petaling and Klang Districts. The city is known for its rubber and olive oil plantations. Travelers can enjoy a scenic ride to Shah Alam from Kuala Lumpur, which is just 20km away. Most of the attractions of Shah Alam are located along the main road; the Persiaran Sultan.

Shah Alam is known to house the largest Masjid of Malaysia, the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Mosque, which is also known as the Blue Mosque (Picture above). The Masjid has four minarets rising to a height of 142.3m; it use to be the tallest minarets in the world. Now it is overtaken by the  King Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca. The Jummah Salaath is conducted around 1:00PM and the sermon is usually delivered in Malay. There are prayer facilities for women on the second level of the Masjid. There are other many other Masaajid in the city as well.

Travelers can relish some of the local delicacies in Shah Alam. Restaurants serving Halal food display a Halal certificate on the counter or look very obviously muslim eateries. If it is not obvious, it is better to check since there are a few outlets that do serve non-halal food as well.

Travelers to the city can visit the Muzium Sultan Alam Shah, where they can learn more about the history of Selangor. The Perpustakaan Tun Uda is the largest library in Selangor. The Selangor State Assembly Building is an important landmark; the building resembles a towering spaceship. When in Shah Alam do visit the Sultan of Selangor's Palace, which is built on a hill and provides stunning views of the city. Other places of interest include Galeri Shah Alam, Kompleks Taman Seni Islam and High 5 Bread Town.

The Shah Alam Lake Garden has been built around a man-made lake and visitors can hire boats and kayaks to explore the lake. The Taman Pertanian or Agricultural Park has a mini zoo and bicycles and horses are available on rent to go around the park. Also visit the Bukit SUK Recreational Forest and Section 28 Recreational Park. Visitors can spend some enjoyable time at the Wet World Shah Alam and Shah Alam Wetland Park. For travelers who love adventure, can enjoy a fun kart racing experience at the Shah Alam Go-Cart Circuit and skateboarding and extreme sports at the Shah Alam Extreme Park, which is open 24 hours.

The best places to shop in Shah Alam are the Shah Alam City Centre Mall that has a selection of branded items, the Plaza Shah Alam, which is a family mall and has several shops. The Plaza Shah Alam is located on the outskirts of the city center. The Kompleks PKNS is the oldest commercial building in Shah Alam. Visitors can also shop at the Anggerik Mall and Plaza Perangsang.
