Japan Halal Expo 2014 - a major halal-themed international expo - will be held in Chiba Prefecture in November, in response to the recent increase in Muslim tourists to Japan.

The Halal food expo will be held on two days - on the 26th and 27th of November - at the Makuhari Messe convention center in Chiba with the aim of promoting awareness on Halal food and the latest trends and patterns of the Muslim travel market. Japan-based Muslims at the expo will also be given the opportunity to provide feedback on whether Japan is a Muslim-friendly country.

Japan has seen an increased number of visits from Muslim travellers over the past year due to visa relaxations and further measures implemented by Japan to make the country more Muslim-friendly. The number of Muslim travellers to Japan is expected to reach one million by 2020.

Authentic Japanese cuisine - also known as Washoku - is becoming increasingly available for Muslim tourists in Japan. The Malaysia Halal Corporation has been actively involved in providing Halal certification for various restaurants and eateries.

Narita Airport in Tokyo already offers two Halal outlets - Kineyamugimaru Restaurant and Agetatenoaji, Tentei - which are popular Muslim-friendly restaurants located on 5th floor of the center of T1 and 4th floor of T2 respectively. The airport also houses the Narita Airport Rest House which is a Muslim-friendly hotel given a rating of 4 by CrescentRating. More hotels in Japan - such as Hotel Granvia Kyoto which has been given a rating of 3 by CrescentRating - are also providing Halal menus and Halal-certified kitchens amongst other facilities in a bid to attract more Muslim guests.

Muslims in Turkey are preparing for the annual Haji pilgrimage coming up in October this year. The first group of pilgrims are set to depart on the 1st of September and will see a dry run of hajj rites. A special ceremony will see off the pilgrims at the Esenboğa airport in Ankara.
