Moving along the Malay coast, the convoy of Ibn Battuta anchored at the port city of Samudra, the Sumatran Port. He spent a few weeks on the island and left for China in April 1346. Ibn Battuta also refers to the island as Java.

Sumatra is the sixth largest island in the world and an important island of Indonesia. The Banda Aceh is the capital of the Aceh province in Sumatra. The Masjid Raya Baiturrahman features amazing architecture. Travelers will also love visiting the Cut Nyak Dhien House and Gunongan and Taman Putroe Phang, Aceh Museum, Ulee Lheue-Banda Aceh, Indonesia Airline Monument ad the Tsunami Monument and Garden. There are a number of souvenir shops across the city.

Bengkulu is a beautiful city and the capital of the Bengkulu Province. Visitors can enjoy picturesque sunsets from Fort Malborough. While in the city, travelers can also explore the Enggano Island and enjoy outdoor activities like trekking, diving and surfing.

The city of Jambi is located in east Sumatra in the Jambi Province. Muaro Jambi is the largest archaeological site of Sumatra. The Bukit Duabelas National Park has the last remaining lowland rainforest and is home to the Orang Rimba tribe.

Medan is one of the largest cities of Indonesia and has a number of interesting places to visit. The Maimoon Palace, Old City Hall, Water Tower, Post Office Center and Titi Cantuary are worth visiting. Walk along the Merdeka Walk and get to know more about the area at the Museum of North Sumatra. The Medan Zoo is also an excellent place to enjoy. Padang is another important city in Sumatra housing attractions like Museum Adityawarman, Pantai Air Manis, Taman Budaya cultural park, Sitti Nurbaya Bridge and the Padang Beach. The Ramayana shopping district has a number of shops.

Pekanbaru, the capital of the Riau Province is the hub for oil production in the region. There are a number of sites to visit in city including Mesjid Agung An-Nur and Mesjid Raya Pekanbaru. The Labersa Water Park is lovely to enjoy. The city has fantastic shopping malls.

From Sumatra, Ibn Battuta set out again for China making his next stop at the island of Java. The capital of Indonesia, Jakarta is located on Java and features a vibrant life. Masjid Istiqlal is the largest masjid in the city. There are a number of historic buildings in the northern part of the city. The Jakarta History Museum is an excellent site. The city also has several recreational parks for travelers to spend a day and picnic in. Jakarta has various exclusive shopping malls.

Yogyakarta in Java is popular for its ancient relics and colonial architecture. The Grand Masjid of Yogyakarta is the main masjid in the city. The Sultan's Place Complex is one of the bets sites in the city. The Vredeburg a Dutch Fort, old capital of the Islamic Mataram Kingdom and the Royal Palace are among other sites. Adventurous travellers have several places to enjoy. Shopping is an enjoyable experience in the city.

Bandung has a number of interesting places like the Bosscha Observatorium, Geological Museum, Saung Angklung Udjo, Bandung Zoo and the Alun-alun Bandung. Lembang located close to the city is an amazing place to visit. The Masjid Raya Bandung is the main masjid in Bandung. Bandung is the best place for shopping lovers to enjoy.

Surabaya is located in east Java and has several museums, amusement parks and historic monuments for travelers to visit. The Al-Akbar Masjid is the biggest masjid in the city. The Ciputra Water Park is a fun place for everyone. The Pasar Pabean in the city has the best shopping malls.
