The Department of Islamic Art in the Louvre is the oldest Islamic Collection in an International Museum
The Department of Islamic Art is the latest addition to the galleries in the Louvre Museum. Opened in 2003, the gallery was originally created in 1890 and was a part of the Department of Decorative Arts. The collection at this gallery represents Islamic history and some of the artifacts in the museum depict the ancient relations between France and the Islamic world. This is the oldest Islamic collection in an international museum.
