With the River Irwell running through the city there are a number of canals and a quay network that have recently been redeveloped. The quays of Salford house interesting architecture and also an outlet mall. The Lowry has a large collection of LS Lowry's work as well as galleries, theatres and designer shopping.
The city is one of the earliest industrial cities and boasts of a number of historic achievements. Salford is home to the first free public library of the world. The Ordsall Hall is a historic house over 750 years old and is home to the local history museum. The bridge over the River Irwell is another historic site in the city.
A major part of Salford is made of green spaces, nature parks and parklands. The city has only orange canal in UK, wetland, several ponds and a fishing lake.
Shopping in Salford is fun; the Lowry Outlet Mall at the quays has some excellent deals on clothing and other products. Other shopping centers in and around the city include West One at Eccles, Salford Shopping Center at Pendleton, Swinton Precinct in Swinton, Trafford Center at the Trafford Park and the Ellesmere Center in Walkden.
There are quite a number of masaajid in the city including the Eccles Masjid, a prayer room at the University of Salford and several masaajid within close reach of Salford in the Manchester area. Salford has a number of Halal restaurants, some of which are located in the Salford Quay.
Salford is well served by public transport system with buses and the metrolink tram service helping visitors traverse through the city.
