The walled city of England, Chester is located in Cheshire, England close to the border of Wales. Sitting on the banks of River Dee, Chester is a delightful city and is pleasant to visit at any time of the year. The lively atmosphere and the historic ambiance of the city make it an excellent place to visit.

The city was founded over 2000 years ago by the Romans and much of the Roman influence is still visible in the architecture of the city. The City Walls of Chester are the main site in the city. The Eastgate Clock is one of the most prominent landmarks in the city.

The walls surrounding Chester are mainly from the medieval era but some parts have been built on the older Roman walls. Visitors can walk around these walls and discover the historical essence of the area. The center of the city has Roman Roads namely Via Praetoria and Via Principalis which are present day Bridge St. and Eastgate. The Roman Amphitheatre is a wonderful site. The Roman Gardens houses exclusive Roman artifacts, a hypocast and stone column bases. Walking through the gardens takes visitors down a few steps to River Dee. A cruise through the River Dee is an awesome experience that should not be missed. The Chester Castle and Cathedral are excellent historic sites to visit.

The museums of Chester are well marked in the city and are within walking distance of each other. The Grosvenor Museum is a great place to learn more about the history of Chester. The museum features an art gallery, natural history exhibition and also a silverware collection. Visitors can learn more about the Roman culture in the city by visiting the Dewa Roman Experience. The Military Museum houses excellent military exhibits.

The Chester Zoo is a great place for the entire family to have fun. It is located in the outskirts of the city. The Blue Planet Aquarium is located about 7 miles from the city and is a highly recommended attraction for visitors traveling with kids.

Travelers can enjoy an excellent shopping experience in Chester. The most unique character of the city is the two-tiered rows that allow visitors to enjoy shopping. The Eastgate Street is the main shopping street with several retail outlets and smaller boutiques on the upper rows. The Godstall Lane is a narrow lane just off the Eastgate Street. The Bridge Street has several specialty shops and boutiques. Other shopping areas include Watergate Street, Northgate and the Grosvenor Shopping Centre and Forum Shopping Centre.

The Shah Jalal Masjid in Chester is the main masjid. It is located in Blacon and has a capacity to hold over 430 people which includes a women's section. There are a few Halal South Asian restaurants and takeaways in the city.

Chester has an extensive roadway system making taxis, buses and rented cars the most convenient means of travel.
