Atlanta (Georgia, USA) Overview

Atlanta is located in the northern part of Georgia, which is called as Piedmont in the USA. Popular as the "Crown Jewel of the South", Atlanta is dotted with several museums, historic monuments and other attractions. The city is known across the world as a major business center.

The city had successfully hosted the Olympic Games in 1996 and most of the city has been redeveloped with wonderful shopping districts and an array of exclusive restaurants. The skyline of the city is dominated with skyscrapers. The shopping malls in Atlanta are some of the best. The Buckhead district is known for its collection of retail outlets and boutiques. Some of the popular shopping malls in the city are the Cumberland Mall, Little Five Points, Northlake Mall, Phipps Plaza, and the Mall at Peachtree Center. Underground Atlanta apart from being a great shopping destination is also an excellent place to visit.

 

Atlanta is a city filled with museums; the Atlanta History Center is dedicated to the history of the South. The Fernbank Museum of Natural History, Imagine It (Children's Museum), Michael C. Carlos Museum of Emory University, Margaret Mitchell House and Museum and the Robert C. Williams American Museum of Papermaking are the other museums worth visiting in the city.

Atlanta is a city with a long history. There are a number of historic landmarks and monuments that travellers can visit during their stay. Some of these important landmarks include the Georgia Dome, Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historic Site, The Georgia State Capitol, Sandy Springs Historic Site and the Wren's Nest.

Atlanta has a number of halal restaurants making it easy for travellers to find food of their choice. Persian halal restaurants are quite popular in the city. Downtown also has a few halal restaurants where you can find different cuisines mainly Mediterranean, Middle Eastern and also Chinese and Asian.

The Al Farooq Masjid is the main masjid in the city of Atlanta. There are many other masaajid across the city like Atlanta Masjid of Al-Islam, Masjid Al-Muminun, Masjid Abu Bakr and Masjid Al Quran.

A visit to Atlanta is incomplete without visiting the Centennial Olympic Park, which is the main highlight of the city. The Atlanta Botanical Gardens located in Midtown, which has 15 gardens and remaining woodland. The Stone Mountain Park and Piedmont Park are other green spaces in the city.
