Sheikh Zayed Mosque, Abu Dhabi

Sheikh Zayed Masjid in Abu Dhabi the capital of United Arab Emirates

Manifesting the spirit of Islam, the majestic Sheikh Zayed Masjid is the most prominent masjid in the city of Abu Dhabi. The masjid has been holding prayers since December 2007 and is among the largest in UAE. It is named after Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founder of UAE.

The masjid architecture has been inspired by Turkish, Moroccon and Mughul designs featuring 82 domes. The dome is typical Mughal style and the archways have a Moorish touch. The minarets are a brilliant example of Arab architecture. The masjid showcases the largest chandelier and carpet in the world. The Mosque is large enough to accommodate 40,000 worshippers. The main prayer hall can accommodate up to 7,000 worshippers. Two rooms next to the main prayer hall, with a 1,000-capacity each, are for the exclusive use of women.

It has now become on of most important landmarks in UAE. A must see in Abu Dhabi
