Koh Samui Overview

A great place to relax, Koh Samui, Thailand is a lovely boutique island offering a laid back atmosphere and several beaches for visitors to unwind and have a memorable time. Travelers can wake up to blue skies and a charming weather everyday.

The only Masjid on the Koh Samui Island is the Masjid Nurulihsan in the Muslim fishing village of Hua Thanon. The Jummah Salaath is held between 12:15PM and 1:30PM and the sermon is conducted in Thai.

Most of the restaurants in Koh Samui offer separate Halal menus and hence it is better for travelers to enquire with the restaurant staff before dining. Relish some fresh seafood and several other local specialties.

Koh Samui is one of the popular travel destinations in the Gulf of Thailand and houses some of the best beaches of the country. The Chaweng Beach is the main beach on the island and has several resorts and bungalows. Other major beaches include Lamai Beach, Bophut Beach, Maenam Beach, Choengmon Beach, Big Buddha Beach, Nathon and Bang Rak.

Travelers can also visit waterfalls like Namtok Hin Lat and the Namtok Na Mueang. Visitors can travel up a local road to the Na Mueang 1 Waterfall and walking for 30 minutes further they can witness the more picturesque Na Mueang 2 Waterfall. There are purple rocks surrounding the stream. Other attractions on the island include the Samui Butterful Garden or Insect Museum, Snake Farm, Magic Garden or the Secret Buddha Garden, Crocodile Parks and the Samui Aquarium and Tiger Zoo. One of the crocodile farms is located behind the airport and the other is located at Na Mueang 2 Waterfall.

The Monkey Theater is a unique theater where travelers can enjoy monkey shows. Buffalo fighting is one of the popular sports on the island. The Tongtakien Bay is a lovely small bay situated off the main road from Lamai from Chaweng. The bay features shallow and clean water during low tide; ideal for swimming.

The Old House is a Chinese-style house almost 150 years old also one of the interesting places to visit. Travelers can also get an insight into high quality fruit cultivation at the Ban Lipa Yai village. There are a number of activities like diving and snorkeling. Diving is enjoyed at the nearby Angthong Marine National Park or Koh Tao.

The Na Thon is the main seafront of the island filled with shops, restaurants and tour organizations.

The Chaweng Beach is filled with nightclubs hence Halal conscious travelers are advised to stay away from the area.
