Julius Nyerere International Airport, Tanzania

The Julius Nyerere International Airport is the main airport serving Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. It is counted among the largest airports in Tanzania and is operated by the Tanzania Airports Authority (TAA). The airport is situated in Kibaha and is about 10km from the city center of Dar es Salaam.

Serving over 1.5 million passengers annually, the airport boasts of two runways that cater to both national and international flights. At present the airport has two terminals Terminal 1 and 2. Terminal 1 caters to charter services and general aviation whereas Terminal 2 caters to national and international flights. Taxis are available for passengers who need to commute between the two terminals.

Prayer Rooms

The Julius Nyerere International Airport does not have any designated room for salaat; however enough space is available for performing salaat with Jamaat.

Halal Dining

The Julius Nyerere International Airport has three restaurants: two at the departure lounges and one in the public area. The food provided in the restaurants are Halal, however it is better to confirm before dining.

Transport

The Julius Nyerere International Airport is well served by city buses. The service is available 24 hours and it takes about 30 minutes to reach the city. Buses can be availed about 500m from the terminal. Airport taxis are also available for the convenience of passengers. It is important to note that the taxis do have meters and you are free to bargain with the driver.

A number of hotels also provide shuttle services for guests. Car rentals can be availed from the arrivals area.

Shopping

Travelers can find a number of duty-paid and duty-free shops at the Julius Nyerere International Airport. There are several gift stalls and also a pharmacy available for the convenience of visitors.

Money Exchange

The Julius Nyerere International Airport also offers facilities like ATMs, bank branches and also a currency exchange counter.

Other Amenities

Travelers can enjoy Internet access at the airport. Car parking is available free of cost in front of Terminal 1. However, parking in front of Terminal 2 is available for a small fee. The airport has a post office and a lost and found desk in the Arrivals lounge. If required, porters can help you carry your luggage. Wheelchairs are available at the airport and services for the handicapped are also provided. You can also receive assistance at the tour desk or from travel agents that function at the airport if necessary.
