- Overview
Chaaya Blu, located at the breathtaking location of Trincomalee (Sri Lanka), was once a 70's resort originally designed to resemble a great sailing vessel. It was transformed and launched on the 15th of May 2010 with a refreshing retro-chic design - 81 rooms decorated with bleached wooden decks, cut cement floors, rattan furniture and denim trimmings. Choose from one of the 36 beach chalets, 43 superior rooms or 2 suites, which are furnished to delight the discerning traveler, and equipped with four star amenities such as cable TV, tea and coffee making facilities, complimentary toiletries and more.
'Captain's Deck', the main restaurant at Chaaya Blu, offers scrumptious buffet spreads while 'The Crab', an open-air restaurant, offers delectable cuisine on the beach. The restaurants are renowned for their signature dishes and tantalizing aromas which waft from the kitchens. Steeped in myth and history this destination has attracted the attention of ancient sea farers such as Marco Polo and Ptolemy and was once the central base for sea traders from China and East Asia. Now, a destination renowned for its stunning beaches and abundant marine offerings for snorkelers and divers, Trincomalee is a tribute to the significant diversity of the Sri Lankan tourism product. The discovery of seas ideal for Whale Watching has tagged Trincomalee as a must-see destination. The name "Trincomalee" has evolved from the Sanskrit term 'Gorkana' which was derived from the name of a Buddhist temple situated in the region 'Sirigonakanda'; to the Tamil word 'Tirukonamalai'. The Tamil influence came to play when the Anuradhapura and Pollonnaruwa kingdoms were invaded by the South Indian rulers during the thirteenth century. The Tamil name 'Tirukonamalai' denotes the meaning lord of the sacred hill. This port city was a key location in the epic, Ramayana. The peninsula surrounded by the sparkling blu and bordered by the soft white sandy beaches calls out to every traveller to begin their own unforgettable travel story. Culture, tradition, history or a simple beach holiday; Trincomalee offers a variety of attractions to choose from. Delve into fables of Hinduism with a visit to the Koneswaram Temple dedicated to the Hindu God Shiva, test the waters at the hot water springs believed to be a creation of king Ravana, meander through the ramparts of Fort Frederick the largest fort of the island built by the Dutch, snorkel the shaded shores of Pigeon Island in search of rich marine offerings or simply bask in the sun, wallow in the stunning view or immerse yourself in the many shades of the 'blu'.
