The third largest city in South Africa and the largest in the province of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban is one of the top travel destinations in South Africa. Beautifully set on the Natal Bay, Durban is also one of the most important and busiest ports of South Africa. Home to lovely sun-kissed beaches, travelers can pick any time of the year to visit this beautiful destination.

In Durban there are quite a few Masaajid. The main Masjid is the Juma Masjid; it is the largest Masjid in the southern hemisphere. Travelers can find a bustling neighborhood in the vicinity and there are several Halal restaurants too in the area. Visitors can relish the "bunny chow", a hollowed loaf of bread filled with curry. The Jummah Salaath is held between 12:15PM to 1:30PM. Prayer facilities are available for women too.

The Golden Mile is a beautiful beach stretching over 6km and travelers can enjoy some lovely sights, excellent surfing and a royal Zulu rickshaw ride. One of the latest attractions in the city is the uShaka Marine World in South Beach and the Wet n' Wild Waterpark in the area.

Durban's Botanic Gardens located in the Greyville houses an exclusive collection of plants. Visitors can also enjoy hiking through the Mangrove Swamp, Kenneth Steinbank Reserve or Tala Valley. The Umgeni River Bird Park is also a great place to visit. The Fun World Amusement Park, Mini Town and Natal Sharks Board make excellent places of for the entire family to visit.

In the heart of Durban is the Francis Farewell Square, which is the spot where the city originated as a small settlement. There are some interesting historic sites around the square including the City Hall and a history Museum in the Old Court House. Within the City Hall on the first floor is the Natural Science Museum and on the second floor is the Durban Art Gallery.

The KwaMuhle Museum has been devoted to the races of KwaZulu-Natal and features multimedia presentations taking visitors through the experiences of the tribes.

The Moses Mabhida Stadium built for FIFA 2010 is one of the most beautiful stadiums in the world. For those interested in arts and music find the BAT Center to be an interesting place.

Right from open-air markets to sophisticated malls, Durban has it all. The Gateway Mall, situated in Umhlanga is the largest in southern hemisphere. The Pavilion is another popular shopping destination in the city. The other centers include Richdens Village Center, Sanlam Center in Pinetown, The Workshop and the Victoria Street Market. The Golden Hours Rustic Market held every Sunday is great to shop for toys, pottery and home wares.

Travelers are advised not to wear excessive jewelry and be careful with their cash while going sightseeing especially close to the beach and promenade.
