Masjid Sultan, Singapore

Sultan Masjid is considered one of the most important Masjid in Singapore with a history of more than 170 years. It is located in Kampung Glam area in the vicinity of Arab Street.

Sultan Hussain Shah of Johor is credited with building the Masjid from 1824 to 1826 which at that time was next to his palace. In 1924, the Masjid was rebuilt to accommodate a growing Muslim population. The mosque was completed after four years in 1928.

Masjid Sultan has stayed essentially unchanged since it was built, with only repairs carried out to the main hall in the 1960s and an annex added in 1993. It is now declared a national monument by the Singapore Government.

As all masaajid in Singapore, it has female prayer room facilities as well.

It is indeed a must visit area for tourist. Read more about Arab Street and what it has to offer in the Singapore destination guide.
