Cameron Highlands overview
Written by CrescentratingOne of the most extensive hill stations of Malaysia, Cameron Highlands is located on the northernmost tip of the state of Pahang and is the smallest district in the state. Cameron Highlands was first developed by the British and still maintains an English Village charm. The main towns of Cameron Highlands are Tanah Rata and Brinchang.
Travelers can find quite a number of Masaajid in Cameron Highlands in the towns of Tanah Rata and Brinchang. The Jummah is delivered in Malay and Masaajid provide prayer rooms for women.
Finding Halal food in Cameron Highlands is not a difficult task. There are several Halal eateries throughout the region where travelers can dine. When in Cameron Highlands, visitors should definitely try the Steamboat, which is a pot of boiling soup in, which they can cook, their own vegetable or meat.
The Tanah Rata is a small town located along the road in the area and travelers can visit several tea plantations and strawberry farms. Some of the plantations that can be visited include Rose Valley, Boh Tea Plantation and Bharat/Cameron Tea Plantation. A small distance from Tanah Rata is the beautiful Robinson Waterfall.
Travelers can also take a guided tour to see the Rafflesia Flower (world's largest flower). The tour guide takes visitors to sites where the flower can still be found. Travelers can drive all the way up to Gunung Brinchang, the highest point in the hills and from there enter the Mossy Forest and Sungai Palas Tea Plantation.
The Bala's Holiday Chalet, which is one of the oldest colonial buildings in Cameron Highlands. Tanah Rata is also the main starting point for several jungle trails. There are about thirteen trails that can be explored within a few hours or a full day. Most of the resorts and guesthouses are located in this vicinity. The Rose Center is an extensive garden with beautiful landscaping. Also visit the Butterfly Farm located around the Kea Farm area towards the north of Brinchang.
Travelers can also enjoy an overnight camping at Gunung Irau, one of the highest peaks next to Gunung Brinchang. The 18-hole Cameron Highlands Golf Course is a beautiful place for golfers to enjoy a great time. There are several maps available at hotels and resorts that travelers can use for hiking around the picturesque Cameron Highlands.
Travelers can find a souvenir shop in Tanah Rata. There are also fresh vegetable markets and farms from where travelers can buy tea, honey and several other things
