Komodo Island overview

The Komodo Island is one of the 17,508 islands of Indonesia. The island is mainly known for the Komodo National Park and is also a popular destination for diving and trekking. Komodo is located between the islands of Sumbawa in the west and Flores in the east.

The main population of Komodo is that of Muslims. There are quite a number of Masaajid on the island. The Jummah Salaath is delivered in the local language. Travelers can also find Halal eateries on the island. It is important for travelers to carry mineral water when going trekking in the interiors of the island. There are shops close to the National Park where they can find mineral water and soft drinks.

The main attraction of the island is the Komodo National Park. The Komodo National Park also spreads to the Pulau Rinca. The National Park features several wildlife, the Komodo Dragon is the main inhabitant of the park, a type of monitor lizard. However, travelers should keep in mind that these Komodo Dragons have a history of attacking humans and hence should observe them from a distance.

The Komodo Island also has some impressive beaches in the area of the Komodo National Park. Scuba diving is the main activity that travelers can enjoy. There are over thousand different fish species that travelers can observe during their diving trip. Visitors can also enjoy swimming in the Flores Sea.

Visitors can take the help of rangers and enjoy trekking through the interiors of the island. It is important to note that only guided tours are allowed on the island to keep the travelers safe.

The Pulau Padar is divided by, the powerful Selat Lintah from the Komodo Island. One should be careful because the whirlpools and currents around this area are quite powerful and can be dangerous.

Travelers can buy wooden Komodo Dragons, t-shirts and stickers on the island close to the Komodo National Park.
