Bogor City Overview

A quiet city, Bogor is located in West Java about an hour away from Jakarta. It is considered to be one of the most exotic cities of Indonesia. Bogor has a pleasant climate with a slight drizzle every now and then but this does not prevent visitors from traveling around the city. Bogor has also been nicknamed as the "Rain City".

Bogor has quite a number of Masaajid as the population predominantly consists of Muslims. Some of the Masaajid in Bogor are Masjid Al-Ikhlas, Masjid At-Taufieq, Masjid Al Muhajirin and Masjid Jami' Al-Huda. The Jummah Salaath is held between 12:00PM and 1:00PM and the sermon is conducted in the local dialect. The Massajid have facilities for prayer for women.

Most of the restaurants in Bogor serve Halal food. Some restaurants serving Halal food carry a certification from the Majelis Ulama Indonesia (MUI).

Bogor is famous for its Botanical Garden, which houses over 20,000 species of plants. Travelers can plan a picnic in the garden and also relish some traditional local cuisine inside the premises. The garden is open from 8AM to 5 PM daily.

In the northwest corner of the garden is the Presidential Palace. There are over 250 tamed deer grazing at the grounds of the palace. In the northeast section is a huge greenhouse that houses a large variety of orchids. Travelers can also visit the Museum Zoology and the Museum Etno Botanical close to the garden.

Travelers can also visit monuments like Kujang, at triangle park, the Batutulis at Batutulis village and Cirauteun. There are a number of golf courses around Bogor and visitors can also enjoy freshwater fishing at the Fishing Valley in Bogor. "The Jungle" is a wonderful water park located in the Bogor Nirwana Residence housing complex. There is something for everyone at this water park.

When in Bogor, travelers should visit the Taman Safari located in the area of Cisarua, Puncak Bogor. It is the first safari park in Indonesia. About an hour from Bogor is the Curug Nangka or Nangka Waterfall at the base of the Mount Salak. Another place worth visiting is the Gede Pangrango National Park that has two active volcanoes and visitors can enjoy mountain climbing, hiking and camping in the area.

Bogor has traditional markets selling clothes, toys, fruits and vegetables. There are also some shopping malls in the city like Botani Square, Bogor Trade Mall, Pangrango Plaza and Eka Lokasari Plaza.
