The Guyana Zoological Park is located adjoining the Botanical Gardens and houses some animals that are usually not seen in Guyana. The attempt to establish a zoo was long back in 1880 but the Zoological Park was finally opened in 1952. The Guyana Zoo provides a relaxing atmosphere to enjoy a great time with family and friends. Even before the Zoo was established there were Manatees living in the ponds of the botanical gardens since 1895. They are very friendly and tamed and if visitors hold out some grass over the edge of the pond they’ll come eat it. There are also two Harpy Eagles, which are long-term residents of the zoo. The zoo sees almost 10,000 visitors every month.
The closest Masjid to the Botanical Gardens and the Zoo will be the Queenstown Jama Masjid and visitors can dine at the Hack’s Halal Food or The Roti Hut.
