Sharm El Sheikh Overview

One of the best travel destinations in Egypt, Sharm El Sheikh is located on the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula and is the administrative hub of the South Sinai Governorate in Egypt. Applauded for its beaches, historic monuments and lovely architecture, Sharm El Sheikh is continuously expanding.

The city is known for its ancient Masaajid with the Al Salam Masjid being one of the main Masaajid in Sharm El Sheikh. The Jummah Salaath is conducted between 12:15PM and 1:15PM. The sermon is delivered in Arabic and prayer rooms are available for women.

Sharm El Sheikh has a number of Halal dining restaurants where travelers can taste delicious Lebanese, Arabic and Syrian cuisine. However, this being a very popular tourist destination, travelers should be aware that many cafes and restaurants in the city serve alcohol.

The main attraction for travelers in Sharm El Sheikh is diving that divers of all levels can enjoy. Dive into the warm water of the Red Sea and explore the colorful undersea world. The reefs of Ras Mohammed Natural Park and Tiran in Sharm El Sheikh are considered to be the best diving spots in the world. The Na'ama Bay is also an enticing place for travelers to appreciate natural beauty. Other places where visitors can enjoy sun, sand and water are Shark's Bay and Sharm el-Moiya.

Other activities that visitors can enjoy in Sharm El Sheikh include camel trekking, quad biking and horseback riding. There are a number of local tour operators that take travelers through these experiences.

Travelers can also visit Mount Sinai, a beautiful group of peaks, which also holds religious significance. According to some scholars, this is the mountain which is reffered in the Qur'an in the Surah At-Tin (sūrah 95). Travelers can reach the top of this peak by climbing the stairs, which pass through the Fountain of Moses.

Also visit the Sinai Heritage Museum, which is dedicated to Bedouins and their culture and heritage. Travelers can also see handicrafts, artifacts and several captivating exhibits in the museum. The Sharm Old Town is a beautiful place that visitors should see when in the city. It takes travelers to the olden days and the culture of the region.

The best shopping in Sharm El Sheikh can be enjoyed around the Na'ama Bay area. Also get some great deals at the Sharm Old Market and at the Naama Shopping Center. There are several small shops where travelrs can get jewelry, leather good and rugs, silk shawls and sheesha (water pipes).
