The hustle and bustle of LCCT; KL's budget terminal

Written by  Fazal Bahardeen

Every time I pass through the LCCT airport, I am very impressed by the level of activity of this "Budget Airport". LCCT stands for Low Cost Carrier Terminal. However even some of the more flashy International Airports cannot match the convenience and the buzz at this one.

One of the main reasons has to be success of AirAsia's. This the main hub of AirAsia. AirAsia has definitely revolutionized Air travel. Not long ago, you had to spend around USD 200 for a Singapore-KL-Singapore ticket. Now you can get it for as low as USD 45; either on AirAisia or Tiger Airways.

LCCT has enough food outlets to give you a good choice. The public areas have quite number of Halal Food outlets including McDonald's, Asian Kitchen and Coffee Bean. Even the transit areas have a couple of Coffee shops and Dunkin Donuts!

There are two prayer rooms in the public areas, both cater to males and females. I am not sure whether there is one in the transit area. But since it is a small area, you can always do your Salaath at the Transit area prayer rooms and then go to board the plane.

The waiting areas of this "Budget Airpot" are very decent too. I always get some work done using the free wifi while waiting for the flight.

The taxi stand is well regulated and you could get a taxi ticket just at the exit of the arrival hall. Taxi to the city cost around RM 75. If you wish to keep to a full budget travel, you can get a bus ride to the Sentral KL railway station for RM 8. It will take around 1 ½ hours to get there! If you are not in a hurry, then the bus is a good option and the seats are good enough to take a snooze!

The duty free prices are supposed to be slightly lower than the KLIA (the main international airport of KL). I have not made any purchases though to check it out.

Overall this "Low cost" airport is very user friendly and Halal Friendly.
