US State Department lifts Travel warning to Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka, after few decades of turmoil, is now once again emerging as a sought after Tourist destination.

New York Times listed Sri Lanka as No. 1 of the "31 places to go in 2010" in January. On the 26th of May 2010, US department of State lifted its travel warning with the following announcement.

"The Travel Warning issued for Sri Lanka on November 19, 2009 has been cancelled, effective May 26, 2010.

Department of State has cancelled the Travel Warning for Sri Lanka due to improvements in safety and security conditions throughout the country.

Within a 65,000 square kilometres area, Sri Lanka offers everything from pristine beaches to breathtaking natural sceneries.

With Muslims consisting of around 8% of the population, it is a very Muslim friendly destination.
