Barbados Attractions

Even though Barbados is a small island there is a lot of exploring to do and there are some places that you cannot escape visiting. Right from natural caves to gardens, beaches and waterfalls there a lots of places to travel around and do around the area. Visitors can enjoy a range of adventure and water sports.

Close to Bridgetown the capital city of Barbados is the Christ Church parish. The parish houses the largest inland water expanse in Barbados the Grarme Hall Swamp. The swamp has red and white mangrove trees and a natural habitat for over 40 species of birds.  Visitors can also spot mongoose and green monkeys.

On the eastern coast of Barbados visitors can find the Flower Forest that has an excellent variety of plant species and has some marvelous colorful flowers. The Flower Forest is open all around the week from 9AM to 5PM.

The St. Joseph parish has yet another amazing garden the Andromeda Botanical Garden. In the St. Andrew Parish is the Turners Hall Woods, which are the last remains of the tropical forests that once covered Barbados.

The parish of St. Thomas has a long gully called as the Welshman Hall Gully that has some remarkable tropical trees and also the largest pillar of the world that is formed by the fusion of a stalactite and stalagmite.

The waters of Barbados are a great treasure to explore marine life. The Animal Flower Cave in the St. Lucy parish is where visitors can see sea anemones in the cave pools. The Folkestone Marine Park, situated in St James, near Holetown is an artificial reef that was formed by, the sinking of Stavronikita ship in 1976.

The Recreational Zone of the park is an adventurous swimming zone where visitors can see several species of marine life, sponges and corals. There is also an aquarium and a museum in the park. Visitors would also like to see the Barbados Wildlife Reserve, which is set in the natural mahogany wood in St. Peter parish.

The west coast of Barbados is also called as the Platinum Coast. From Bridgetown towards north there are several beaches where visitors can enjoy the warm waters of the Caribbean. Some of the beaches include Paynes Bay in the St James parish,

Mullins Bay and Heywoods in St Peter. Bathsheba in St. Joseph parish is a little fishing village and is one of the favorite visitor spots because of the scenic rocky terrain and excellent beaches.

The Harrison’s Cave in Central Barbados is a large underground cavern, which is a major attraction in Barbados. Travelers can see mesmerizing views of waterfalls, streams of crystal clear waters, stalactites and stalagmites and deep emerald pools.

Visitors can find themselves close to Masaajid like Jumma Masjid and Madina Masjid in Bridgetown; Makki Masjid in St. Michael, Islamic Teaching Center at Christ Church and the Mussalla at St. James.
