Year after year tourists from all over the world have visited this beautiful city. The main attraction of the city is the impressive Valley of Kings and the equally applauded Valley of Queens in ancient Thebes. This is where visitors can find the tombs of the royal families of the ancient times. Close to this is the Deir el-Medina or Artisan Village known for its ancient wall paintings and views of the past. Around the West Bank travelers can also visit the Colossi of Memnon that has two huge sandstone statues. The Karnak Open-Air Museum has several reconstructed historic landmarks. Don't miss to see the Hypostile Hall that features a light and sound show at night. Avenue of the Sphinxes is another important landmark, which is a must see. The latest attraction of Luxor is the balloon flight from where travelers can enjoy unparalleled views of the city. Visitors can also take a boat ride along the Nile River.
Most of the population in Luxor consists of Muslims and travelers can easily locate a Masjid. The oldest Masjid in the city is the Abu Haggag Masjid, which is built in the Luxor Temple. The Jummah Salaath is conducted around 12:15PM. The sermon is delivered in Arabic. The food served in most of the restaurants is generaly considered/assumed Halal. If in doubt, confirm with the locals before dining. Most of the local delicacies include meat and beans.
Shopping is an excellent experience in Luxor. The main areas to shop include the Savoy Mall and the old market or the Street Market close to the Luxor Temple where travelers can find antiques and souvenirs. On the West Bank too there are a few shops.
