4. Faith based needs of Halal conscious travellers and the business opportunities it provides

Faith based values and needs are increasingly influential in the purchasing decisions of Muslim consumers. This is already reflected in the choices they make regarding food or conducting financial transactions.

10 reasons why travel is a key vertical in the Halal market space - Part 3 - 5.0 out of 5 based on 1 vote

Thanks for all the comments and feedback on my earlier two posts (Part 1 and Part 2). In Part 3 I am going to cover the area that matters most for destinations and travel service providers: numbers.

3. Halal Travel Market growth – the numbers don’t lie

“Numbers don’t lie” may be a cliché, but it is still very true!

During 2007/2008, when we started our plans to launch Crescentrating, it was not really driven by numbers, but more out of a passion to help Muslim travellers make educated choices when they travel. However as we started our journey in 2009 by launching crescentrating.com and our rating system to rate travel services, it was obvious that we needed more than enthusiasm and passion to convince the industry to take note of these travelers.

Following on from my first post on why travel will be a key sector in the Halal market (Part 1), here is how the unique characteristics of this segment provides a sustainable growth segment for the travel industry.

2. The travel “genome” in the “DNA” of Muslims.

When it comes to travel, Muslims as a community are unique. From a very young age, they develop the lifelong desire to perform Hajj, which is to travel to Makkah in Saudi Arabia and perform a set of acts of worship.

Hajj, being one of the 5 basic pillars of Islam, is obligatory upon all Muslims who are able to perform it once in their lifetime. Hajj is performed from the 8th to 12th day in the 12th Month of the Muslim calendar. Umrah is a pilgrimage to Makkah, which can be performed at any time of the year.

The Global Islamic Economic Summit (GIES) 2013 is just around the corner. The much anticipated event will take place on the 25th-26th November 2013 at the Madinat Jumeirah, Dubai, UAE under the patronage of Vice President & Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

The event will give an opportunity to all stake holders in the Halal and Islamic market space to engage in discussions that will impact the future of these industries. Travel being one of the key segments which will be discussed, I wanted to share a few of my thoughts on this space.

Since the launch of our Air Travel Prayer Time Calculator, we have been getting some great feedback from the Muslim Travelers. Many of them have requested us to include some Airports which are not currently not in the Calc. We will continue to add them so that most major international Airports are covered.
