The National Park known as the "River of the Hamocs"

Situated along the Amazon River in the Amazonas Department of Colombia is the Amacayacu National Park. The park was created in the year 1975 and spreads across 4,220 square kilometers. The park is best accessible from the city of Leticia. From Leticia visitors have to travel up the river by boat to find entrance into the park. The entrance is about 60km upstream at the mouth of the Matamata Creek.

Once inside the Amacayacu National Park there are a number of things that visitors can do such as take trips along the Amazon River to visit different islands. The Mico's island is popular for housing several monkeys, whereas the Mocagua's island is where you can spot Victoria Regia, the lotus flower. A trip up the Amazon to the Tarapoto Lake is highly recommended. Here you can get a chance to spot the Amazon River dolphins namely, botos.

In the Amacayacu National Park you can expect to enjoy a jungle walk. There is a rope bridge over the forest canopy while crossing which you can enjoy exclusive views of the jungle. Guides are available to take visitors on special tours of the park where they can see several plants. Good accommodation facilities are available in the park. If you have time and are looking forward to explore the park in detail, then it can take up to three days. Halal food and Masaajid are not available in the vicinity of the park.
