Boasting of a pristine lake, awe-inspiring volcanoes and beautiful villages, the Parque Nacional Lauca is in the Andean region of Chile close to the city of Arica

The park is a UNESCO Heritage Site and can be reached from Putre, which is about three hours from Arica. Lodging facilities are available in Putre. Take the road from Putre, and after some time you will enter the park. Stop at the sector Las Cuevas where there are thermal springs across a wooden bridge.

From here you can turn South to reach the Cerro El Milagro, a hill that lights up with an amazing range of colors. The Parque Nacional Lauca is popular for its Payachata twins, two massive stratovolcanoes. The volcanoes overlook the Lago Chungara, a beautiful blue lake. For birdwatchers, the Lago Chungara is a wonderful place where they can spot several varieties of birds.

The park boasts of some wonderful archeological remains and Aymara villages. Within the park is the Parinacota village famous for its weaving. This village is also the starting point for hiking to the Bofedales de Parinacota and climbing the Guane Guane. There is a long trail from the Chucuyo settlement to Laguna Cotacotani on which you can either hike or enjoy a drive. The Laguna Cotacotani is another excellent site for spotting beautiful fauna.

The park is at a high altitude and it might take visitors some time to adjust according to the altitude. There are no Masaajid or halal restaurants around the area. Visitors can carry their own food items when visiting the park.
