Halal Japanese food becoming more accessible to tourists

Sep 2014

Authentic Japanese cuisine - also known as Washoku - is becoming increasingly available for Muslim tourists in Japan. The Malaysia Halal Corporation has been actively involved in providing Halal certification for various restaurants and eateries.

Narita Airport in Tokyo already offers two Halal outlets - Kineyamugimaru Restaurant and Agetatenoaji, Tentei - which are popular Muslim-friendly restaurants located on 5th floor of the center of T1 and 4th floor of T2 respectively. The airport also houses the Narita Airport Rest House which is a Muslim-friendly hotel given a rating of 4 by CrescentRating. More hotels in Japan - such as Hotel Granvia Kyoto which has been given a rating of 3 by CrescentRating - are also providing Halal menus and Halal-certified kitchens amongst other facilities in a bid to attract more Muslim guests.

In addition to restaurants, numerous food manufacturers are also hoping to expand their product range to cater to the large Muslim population around the world.
