Located in South Asia, Bangladesh is officially called as the Republic of Bangladesh. The country shares borders with India and Myanmar and the Bay of Bengal. Bangladesh reflects a wonderful history and combines the old and new elements beautifully. Cycle-rickshaws, auto-rickshaws, taxis and buses make a convenient means of transport.

About Dhaka

Dhaka is a vibrant city situated on the banks of Buriganga River. The city was once inhabited by Mughals who built a number of masaajid, forts and tombs across the city. Mukarram-National Masjid is the main masjid in the city and was built in the 17th century. The Parliament building is a wonderful site to visit. The Ahsan Manzil is a lovely pink palace where visitors can see the history of the palace.

Sights & Attractions

Other monuments include Lal Bagh Fort and Museum, Suhrawardy Uddyaan, National Memorial, Bangabandhu Memorial, National Poet's Graveyard, Shahid Minar Memorial, National Leader Mausoleum, Curzon Hall and Banga Bhaban. The city has some other lovely parks like Ramna Park, Baldha Garden, Dhaka Zoo and Botanical Gardens. Dhaka also has several museums for visitors to see. New Market, Banga Bazar and Bashundhara City are the main shopping areas in Dhaka.

Places To See

Chittagong finds an excellent location on the banks of the Karnaphuli River and between Chittagong Hill Tracts and Bay of Bengal. The Chandanpura Mosque (masjid) is the main masjid in the city. The Ethnological Museum and the Zia Museum are wonderful sites. The Patenga Beach and Kattali Beach are lovely spots to enjoy. Another place to have fun in the city is the Foy's Amusement Park. The D C Hill and Batali Hill offer stunning views of the city. Chittagong has a number of shopping malls like Chittagong Shopping Centre, Highway Plaza, Amen Tower and Sanmar Ocean City.

The Cox's Bazar is an amazing beach resort under the Chittagong Division. The Beach at Cox's Bazar is considered to be the longest beach in the world. The Himchari and Inani beaches are excellent to enjoy. Maheskhali is a lovely island located off the coast of Cox's Bazar. The Sonadia Island is also worth visiting. The Hotel Motel Zone in the town is one of the best places for visitors to shop. The Burmese Market is also wonderful for shopping.

Sylhet is located in the stunning Surma Valley in northeast Bangladesh. The Shahi Eidgah is where all the main religious events are conducted. The Ali Amjad's Clock Tower is one of the main landmarks in Sylhet. Visit the Osmani Museum which showcases several artifacts. The Sri Mangal is one of the largest tea gardens in the world. Travellers can also enjoy time at the Lawacherra Rain Forest. The city has several shopping malls and markets like Al Hamra, Manipuri Bazar, London Mansion, Westex, Artisi and Aarong.

Bagerhat is an ancient town with a number of masaajid. The Shait GumbadMosque (masjid) has 77 domes and was built in 1549. It is one of the finest masaajid in the country. Other sites worth visiting include Saint Martin's Island, Char Atra, Sundarbans, Rangamati and Rajshahi.

Halal Food

Bangladesh is an excellent place for fish lovers. Visitors can also relish mutton and mixed vegetable curry in the country. In Old Dhaka travellers should not forget to try Haji biryani and Nanna biryani. Street food like Puchka and Chatpati are a must try. Being a predominantly Muslim country, all food is assumed to be Halal.
